A Sunny Day! May 16, 2017!

Spring vegetables continue to shine at the market! Tender young salad greens, fiddleheads, asparagus, scallions, ramps, radishes, kale, green garlic….each week our farmers bring a little more, as we travel toward the heart of the growing season in the Valley.
Old Friends Farm is offering something NEW to the market this season- ready-to-eat salad boxes! Delicious greens, vegetables, edible flowers and Appalachian Naturals salad dressing, all in compostable packaging.
More excitement this week at the Old Friends Farm stand- the first strawberries of the season! Plus rhubarb (which is an Old Friend of strawberries)!
Now is the time to buy plant starts! The market is full of many varieties of vegetable, herb and flower plants- from the obscure to trusty favorites. Talk to the farmer you’re buying from. They can recommend a particular variety and give you the care instructions you need to have success!
Want to try growing your own shiitake mushrooms this year? Talk to Paul at New England Wild Edibles! You can buy an inoculated log that will produce shiitake mushrooms this season.
Tuesday Market accepts SNAP benefits and will be matching SNAP purchases up to $10 for the first 6 markets of the season. During those 6 weeks, Grow Food Northampton and Tuesday Market will work to educate SNAP customers about the new Healthy Incentives Program (HIP) and how to best utilize it.
HIP is a three-year program which will match SNAP recipients’ purchases of local fruits and vegetables at participating farmers’ markets, mobile markets, farms stands, and CSAs. The HIP benefit will provide $40-$80 per month to SNAP users, depending on household size. Customers can learn more about this exciting new local food benefit by stopping by the purple market tent at Tuesday Market or by clicking HERE
