CISA Climate Week @ GFN: Regenerative Practices for Stewarding a Floodplain

At the Grow Food Northampton Community Farm, learn regenerative practices for stewarding a floodplain in a changing climate.
Join us on the Grow Food Northampton Community Farm, a 121-acre farm situated on the floodplains of the Mill River near Florence Center. Changing climate is bringing floods at unexpected times, most recently in 2023 when the farm was flooded four times within the span of a year.
Hear from two farms located on the Grow Food Northampton Community Farm — Ras Farm and Flowerwork Farm — about regenerative practices they are adopting to be ready for the next flood, including creating living pathways, no-till permanent beds, micro-irrigation and mulching. These strategies protect and build soil, which is crucial for climate resilience. Also, hear from staff at Grow Food Northampton to learn how a community farm serves as a social infrastructure that provides an avenue for community to support land justice work, an important aspect of climate resilience.
Please park at the Florence Recreation Fields at 145 Meadow St., and together we will walk to Ras Farm and then Flowerwork Farm.
