Migration & Belonging (Part 1): Harvesting Roundleaf Bittersweet

April 11 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Join us for the 2026 season of Migration & Belonging, focused on complicating our narratives around non-native or introduced species on this land, and in doing so understanding more fully how plants and people move throughout our world.

This year we are going to engage with another prolific plant on the Grow Food Northampton Community Farm: roundleaf bittersweet.

Bittersweet is a fast-growing vine that twists and climbs around the plants and places where it grows. We will harvest and learn with roundleaf bittersweet together, in preparation for a future basket-making workshop. We will discuss this plant, its place in the local ecology, the stories we tell about movement, belonging, and being out of place, and how we might build different relationships with and understandings of bittersweet. We will reflect on how tending to edgelands, where plants like bittersweet thrive, is part of caring for a shared food-growing landscape.

Meet under the pavilion, and we will walk to the hedgerow to harvest.

Free to attend – please register here! After registering, please sign up as a volunteer to sign our volunteer waiver before this event.
