Stories of Local and Global Food Sovereignty at Grow Food Northampton

July 23, 2025 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Please join us on Wednesday, July 23 at 5:30 pm (rain date: Thursday, July 24) as we introduce the Living History Garden at Grow Food Northampton, and invite you into optional tending of this garden.
In this Living History Garden, we are growing crops that tell us stories about the history of this land, the diverse peoples that lived and grew food here, and movements for food sovereignty in Northampton and around the world. This garden highlights crops that hold histories of enslavement, forced displacement, migration, U.S. imperialism, war, and genocide. These crops also showcase the steadfastness and resiliency of both people and seeds to survive and maintain cultural sovereignty in the face of these conditions.
We invite you to visit this garden, read about these crops, hear short interviews from some people in our community with connections to these crops, and share in some light snacks cooked from crops in this garden. We also invite you to help tend the garden at this event through weeding and mulching to protect the soil, if you would like to!
Free and open to the public
