Cynthia joined the Board in 2021 after serving on the City Council Subcommittee for Pesticide Reduction in 2019. Cynthia teaches at UMASS Amherst despite being a retired faculty member for 20 years. It was Cynthia’s students who taught her about food insecurity, sustainability and food justice long before GFN existed. A current member of the City of Northampton Board of Health and the Patient and Family Advocacy Council at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Cynthia’s background in Health Administration and Policy led her to making connections between food, health, the land and justice. Raised on the small postage stamp neighborhoods in Cleveland, Ohio Cynthia is proud of the fact her parents always composted and produced very tiny gardens between the cement cracks in her neighborhood.
