Ellena joined us in September, 2017, as a TerraCorps Land Stewardship Coordinator, responsible for our Giving Garden and other land-based programming. We subsequently hired her to finish out the 2018 Giving Garden season and to serve as our Local Food Edcator for the 2018-19 school year. In April, 2019, Ellena became our third full-time employee, with combined titles of Giving Garden Manager and Local Food Educator, which mean she is very busy all year long!
Ellena is from the Catskill Mountains of New York, and she first came to the Pioneer Valley to attend Smith College. After graduating with a degree in Engineering and Environmental Science, she traveled near and far to be a part of cooperative land trusts, ecological building projects, and nature immersion programs. After teaching with a regenerative agriculture initiative in the Peruvian Amazon, and eating all the mangoes she could get her hands on, she is happy to be back in the area growing food, teaching, and contributing to the food access initiatives of Grow Food Northampton.
