Michael’s career path has woven the threads of food, business, and social justice. He worked in the fair trade coffee industry for many years, first at Oro Verde, a large farmer’s cooperative in Peru, and then at Dean’s Beans Organic Coffee in Orange, MA. He managed the nonprofit Go Fresh! Mobile Farmers market in Springfield and Holyoke, MA for two seasons, using a market-based model to provide food access for residents who might otherwise be able to afford fresh, healthy food. He has also served on the boards of the Fair Trade Federation and the Quabbin Harvest Food Cooperative, and currently is Treasurer at the Greenfield Center School. He holds a B.S. in Community and Economic Development from the University of Vermont and is earning a masters in management from the Harvard Extension School.
