Perennial Farms, managed by Piyush Labhsetwar, is an experimental plot right on the edge of Capawonganik (Mill river). Its an agroforestry experiment where row crops (grains, vegetables etc) are grown together with tree crops (nuts, fruits etc) to increase perennial vegetation on our farmlands. On this farm, you will find Kernza (intermediate wheatgrass) and Perennial Wheat grown in rows next to Pawpaw fruit trees. Kernza and Perennial Wheat are new perennial relatives of annual wheat being developed in Kansas. Pawpaw is the largest edible fruit native to Northern America. There will be opportunities to help with weeding and harvesting wheat over summer and potentially planting more wheat in fall.
