Grow Food Northampton is committed to both local food production and affordable access to that food. We own 120 acres of farmland, most of which is leased to four private farmers who sell primarily to local and regional markets. We also support many more farmers who sell at our Tuesday Market in downtown Northampton. Our Grow Food Shares program provides opportunities for low-income residents to access local food at affordable prices and in convenient settings. These include Crimson & Clover Farm, Tuesday Market, and Neighborhood Markets at two elementary schools, the Northampton Senior Center, and three neighborhoods with a high concentration of subsidized housing. In total, nearly 400 families purchase healthy local food worth over $100,000 as a result of these programs. In addition, with help from volunteers, we grow over 8,000 pounds of fresh vegetables in our Giving Garden and donate them to local meal sites and food pantries so that those who rely on the emergency food system can experience the dignity of eating the best and freshest produce.
