SNAP Matching at Tuesday Market- Sponsored by Valley Solar

Tuesday Market has been up and running since the last week in April and is off to a great start. With some phenomenal weather the first few weeks, it’s been a treat for vendors and customers alike to reunite and gather around so much amazing local food! Once again this year, Tuesday Market will match SNAP benefits at the market tent. SNAP Matching at Tuesday Market received a big boost this year with sponsorship by Florence-based business, Valley Solar who have generously signed on as Lead Sponsor for 2018.

SNAP recipients can double the value of their local food purchases, up to $10 per week at Tuesday Market. This enables over 40 families each week to enjoy healthy food they could otherwise not afford. Food purchases by SNAP customers at Tuesday Market in 2018 are projected to result in over $30,000 of value. The way it works is that customers can swipe their card at the market tent and purchase tokens with their SNAP benefits. We currently provide a dollar-for-dollar match up to $10, per customer, per week. These tokens can be used all around the market on SNAP-eligible products like fruits and vegetables but also meat, dairy, fish, bread, plants, mushrooms, ghee and much more! During the suspension of the state-run Healthy Incentives Program, SNAP Matching at Tuesday Market was even more valuable to those customers looking to stretch their budget for healthy food, as well as farmers who benefit by the additional income. HIP is now funded for May and June of 2018.

“I can’t express how much I appreciate the SNAP programs that make it
possible for me to shop here and make food purchases that align with my
values. The staff at the market are wonderful—knowledgeable, friendly, and
helpful. They make me feel welcomed and like I belong.” – SNAP Customer

Look forward to seeing Valley Solar tabling at market from time to time. Stop by to thank them for this huge commitment to food access in our area. Thank you, Valley Solar!
