Spring Classroom Workshop: Rainbow Salad
Our Youth Education Program is having a busy Spring! Recently, we wrapped up a session of the popular and fun Rainbow Salad Workshop. Over the course of 12 workshops, Grow Food Northampton staff shared Rainbow Salad with 230 children! We were happy to visit all 4 of Northampton’s elementary schools.
The Rainbow Salad Workshop is centered around the benefits of eating a rainbow every day. Students talked about this as they prepared a colorful salad to share together. Kindergarteners through third-graders enjoyed chopping vegetables and trying new things. Afterward, students complete a worksheet that helps to tie together everything they just learned.

This workshop was provided at no cost to schools thanks to generous funding by the MA Department of Elementary Education (with thanks to the late Rep. Peter Kocot) and the Bunny Rattner Foundation. Thanks also to River Valley Coop for providing gift certificates to purchase local ingredients.
Next week we will begin welcoming Northampton elementary school students to our garden for field trips. We look forward to getting into the soil with students at the Community Garden and Giving Garden!
