Spring Farm & Garden Field Trip Grants Offered

200 Students to visit Northampton Community Farm and Organic Community Garden in June.

Grow Food Northampton will offer five field trips – valued at $500 – to local public elementary school classrooms between June 15 and June 19. The field trip package provides a bus to take classes to/from the Northampton Community Farm, and includes one hour of hands-on youth farm education led by The Farm Education Collaborative. Field trip activities will be tailored to the age group and may include: planting, cultivating, sampling fresh produce, meeting farmers, scavenger hunting, and learning about how local food can reach marginalized members of our community.

We will offer a much larger number of field trips in the fall. These fantastic field trips are 100% funded by Grow Food Northampton, thanks to generous donor support. Northampton schools are our first priority, but we also expect to serve Easthampton and Holyoke schools again in 2015.

If you are a teacher and are interested in participating this spring, please fill out the form below as soon as possible. Qualified applicants will be awarded field trips in a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t delay! Because we want to improve our programming each year, and because continued funding depends upon demonstrated success, we expect all participating teachers to complete an online post-trip evaluation form within one week of the field trip. We also ask for usable photos and/or thank-you’s from the class whenever possible.

  1. The Maple School first grade would like to come to the farm again! Our ideal availability is in the morning of June 15 or 17, but we are available any day that week, except Tuesday June 16.

Calling the school (529-1550) or emailing me directly are the best ways to get back in touch.
