Tuesday Market and Valley Gives Day- May 2, 2017

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

Thanks to all who came out to our rainy first market! The weather may not have been on our side, but the market was bursting with food…so much more than you’d expect in April!
This week will be the same plus more, including- pea shoots, fiddleheads, ramps and rhubarb!
Here’s a great recipe for Ramp Pesto and one for Three Dressings, perfect for all those salad greens at market!
This Tuesday is Valley Gives Day, a special day where local organizations all rally to spread the word about what they do, and receive gifts from generous supporters. Tuesday Market is a program of Grow Food Northampton. You can support Tuesday Market by giving to Grow Food Northampton on Valley Gives Day. One of the programs that Grow Food Northampton funds is SNAP matching at Tuesday Market, which makes a difference for hundreds of local residents.
We have some fun prizes for donors and will have many Grow Food Northampton staff and board members on site at Tuesday Market this week to tell you about all of the good work we have going on. Read more about the prizes here. Read more about Grow Food Northampton here
Treat yourself or a loved one to a lovely spring bouquet! You’ll find flowers all around the market. This week, look for lilacs! These pictured are from Old Friends Farm.
Tuesday Market accepts SNAP benefits and will be matching SNAP purchases up to $10 for the first 6 markets of the season. During those 6 weeks, Grow Food Northampton and Tuesday Market will work to educate SNAP customers about the new Healthy Incentives Program (HIP) and how to best utilize it.
HIP is a three-year program which will match SNAP recipients’ purchases of local fruits and vegetables at participating farmers’ markets, mobile markets, farms stands, and CSAs. The HIP benefit will provide $40-$80 per month to SNAP users, depending on household size. Customers can learn more about this exciting new local food benefit by stopping by the purple market tent at Tuesday Market or by clicking HERE
