Last week was a hot and happy market. Mary Reilly, publisher of Edible Pioneer Valley, executive chef of dining services at Westfield State College and contributor to Home Sausage Makingkicked off our Summer Chef Series. Mary taught us some helpful cutting techniques while preparing Pioneer Valley Panzanella. The results were delicious! It was also inspiring to see how Mary gathered up all of the ingredients at the market and whipped up the recipe in abut 20 minutes. This week we will welcome Deanna Cook who will be sharing her recipe for Kids Corn and Bean Salad at 5 p.m. Deanna Cook has written dozen of books for kids, including Cooking Class, Baking Class, and Farmers Market Create-and- Play Activity Book. These books will all be available to purchase at the market tent. Kids will be invited to help Deanna with her recipe!
The market continues to swell with new crops and products arriving each week. Grace Hill Dairy has begun bringing their pork to market. Check them out for bacon, chops, ground pork and ham steak.
Apex Orchard reports that they just began picking popular Honey Crisp Apples! They’ll have those, freestone peaches and other delicious fruits this week.
Cider Slushies are back at Park Hill Orchard!
