Tuesday Market opens this month!!!

April 25th is opening day for the Tuesday Market! 2017 marks the second year that Grow Food Northampton is running this popular farmers’ market in downtown Northampton.

2016 Wrap-up

Tuesday Market’s transition to operating as a program of Grow Food Northampton was made seamless by our solid team of vendors, the good planning of the market’s founders, the continued loyal support of the community and the strong market management.

With support from CISA, Healthy Hampshire, the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation, and donations from market shoppers, Tuesday Market proudly distributed over $25,000 in SNAP money to customers in 2016! That’s a lot of good, healthy food heading home to our neighbors and a lot of extra money in the pockets for our farmers!

Throughout the 29 week run of the 2016 season, Tuesday Market welcomed dozens of artists, musicians, and community organizations in addition to our farmers. From local crafters to visiting world musicians, no two markets were the same from week to week.

2017 Preview

On opening day this year, shoppers can expect to find a range of vegetables and spring greens, honey, maple products, lamb and beef, eggs, cheese, breads, plant starts, teas, and more. Grow Food Northampton’s MassLIFT-AmeriCorps Youth Education Coordinator, Caroline Rosa, will be on hand with an activity for children focused on local food.

Tuesday Market accepts SNAP benefits and for the first 6 markets of the season will continue to match SNAP purchases up to $10. During those 6 weeks Grow Food Northampton and Tuesday Market will work to educate SNAP customers about the new Healthy Incentives Program (HIP). HIP is a three-year program which will match SNAP recipients’ purchases of local fruits and vegetables at participating farmers’ markets, mobile markets, farms stands, and CSAs, up to $40-$80 per month depending on household size.

This year Tuesday Market is planning a new Cooking Demonstration series in partnership with Hatfield-based national culinary agency The Lisa Ekus Group. This series will run from August 22 to September 26, and feature cookbook authors demonstrating a recipe using produce from the farmers’ market. Customers will be able to sample the recipe at the market and take home a copy so they can reproduce the dish in their own kitchens.

We are looking forward to another fun, exciting, and fruitful season at the Tuesday Market. We hope to see you on April 25th and each Tuesday after until our final Market of the season on November 7th!
