Resources for SNAP Recipients + Ways to Help

If the federal shutdown continues past October 31, November SNAP benefits may be delayed, putting more than 650,000 Massachusetts households and our entire local food economy at risk. This would be unprecedented, families could go hungry, food pantries would be overwhelmed, and $220 million in grocery spending could disappear overnight.

For MA SNAP Recipients:

You can still access HIP (Healthy Incentives Program) even is SNAP is frozen.
HIP provides $40 – $80 of fruits and vegetables each month, depending on household size. Find a HIP retailer here.
Several HIP retailers are at our farmers markets each week- Tuesday Market, 1-6pm through 11/11, Winter Market begins on Nov. 22 from 10am-2pm.
Note: You only need a balance of 1 penny to access your HIP Benefits!

$10 SNAP Match Continues: To assist SNAP recipients in accessing nutritious local food through this manufactured crisis, Grow Food Northampton will continue to provide a $10 Match at the Tuesday Market and Winter Market, even if you don’t have a full $10 on your EBT card until SNAP is funded again.
Stop by the market table to get $10 in tokens to spend on anything SNAP eligible at the market.

Any funds already loaded on your EBT card will remain available to spend in November, even if the shutdown continues.
